Project Description
New South Associates sub-contracted Stratum to record 26 boulders with petroglyphs at the Jacaná ball court site in south-central Puerto Rico. Among other observations, the recordings showed that some boulders have upside-down faces buried below the ground surface of the ball court, each with a circular navel as the point around which the boulder can be rotated.
Key Highlights
- Having been buried within the site’s deposits, the engraved and pecked boulders were in excellent condition when exposed during excavation.
- To protect the boulders from future damage, Stratum advised New South Associates how to protect the boulders with the site’s deposits wrapped in synthetic fiber blankets.
